Transport Policy Research Intern - India

Position: Research Intern (part-time)
Location: Remote/Online
Duration: 2-3 months1

Background

The Asian Transport Observatory (ATO) is a knowledge platform supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). It aims to strengthen the transport knowledge base in Asia and the Pacific to support policy development and decision-making for sustainable transport. ATO is currently expanding its database and insights into national transport policies across the region, with a particular focus on India’s evolving policy landscape.

To assist in this endeavor, ATO seeks motivated and detail-oriented research interns who will contribute to the collection, encoding, organization, and analysis of transport-related policy documents for India. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to develop their research and analytical skills while gaining experience in a high-impact, international development project.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Document Collection:
    • Conduct online searches and liaise with relevant stakeholders to source policy documents.
    • Ensure the authenticity and relevance of collected documents.
  2. Data Encoding and Organization:
    • Input data into ATO’s database using prescribed templates and tools.
    • Maintain organized records of all sourced and encoded documents.
  3. Policy Analysis:
    • Conduct a preliminary review of policy documents to identify critical policy measures and targets
  4. Reporting and Communication:
    • Draft summaries and contribute to reports or presentations based on findings, as needed.
    • Regular communication with the supervisor on progress and challenges.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Highly interested or currently pursuing an undergraduate/postgraduate degree in transportation policy / planning, public policy, urban planning, environmental studies, economics, or a related field.
  2. Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  3. Familiarity with India's transport sector and policy landscape is an advantage.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in regional Indian languages is a plus.
  6. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.

Remuneration

A modest allowance is to be offered to qualified interns. In addition, a certificate of completion to each intern who would successfully be completing their internship.
