At the Expert Consultation Meeting on the Implementation Plan for the Decade of Sustainable Transport, held on 1-2 July 2025 in Bangkok, the Asian Transport Observatory (ATO) shared key insights to support robust monitoring and implementation of the forthcoming UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2035).

Representing the ATO, Alvin Mejia presented concrete regional evidence on critical themes including equitable access to transport, decarbonization, freight and connectivity, efficiency, urban livability, transport safety, resilience, and innovation. Drawing on ATO's multi-scalar data and diverse indicators, the presentation showcased how integrated tracking can serve countries in the Asia-Pacific to benchmark progress, identify gaps, and inform investments.

ATO's message emphasized that effective tracking is not just about measuring outputs — it must also strengthen links to policy design and implementation, underlining how transport underpins economic, social, and environmental goals across sectors.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of robust, collaborative monitoring and evidence-based policymaking to align national priorities with regional and global ambitions for sustainable transport.
