On October 3, 2025, the Asian Transport Observatory (ATO) contributed to "Webinar IV: Road Safety: Building Safer and More Resilient Transport Systems", organized by Masyarakat Transportasi Indonesia (MTI), Politeknik Transportasi Darat Indonesia - STTD Bekasi (PTDI-STTD). The session — the fourth instalment of the "Shifting Towards Sustainable Development: A Webinar Series on Transportation and The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" —highlighted the scale of Asia-Pacific's road safety crisis, where the region accounts for nearly 60% of global road crash deaths. Focusing on Indonesia, Adwait Limaye presented key insights relating to the state and trends of road safety in the country and juxtaposed these against a regional background. The presentation also discussed key elements relevant to road safety in Indonesia—enforcement, motorcycle dominance, infrastructure, post-crash care, insurance uptake, and data— alongside their heavy economic and social costs. He emphasized that road safety is not just a transport issue but a public health and equity concern. Drawing on the Republic of Korea’s success in reducing fatalities through strong policies and enforcement, he stressed that Indonesia has the opportunity to make similar progress. The session also introduced ATO's Road Safety Profiles as a tool to track performance and support evidence-based action across 37 countries. The session was attended by about 700 participants.
