The Asian Transport Observatory (ATO) participated in the event "Ramping up the Ambition of Transport-Related Climate Policy Targets in Asia and the Pacific" on 2 September 2026, showcasing how data-driven insights can help countries develop more ambitious and effective transport climate policies. The event, "Ramping up the Ambition of Transport-Related Climate Policy Targets in Asia and the Pacific" discussed how countries can strengthen transport-related climate commitments and accelerate the transition toward low-carbon mobility. Organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in partnership with the The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the event provided a platform to share emerging evidence, policy experiences, and analytical approaches for integrating transport decarbonization more effectively into national climate and development agendas.

The discussions focused on pathways for raising ambition in transport sector targets, identifying practical implementation measures, and strengthening the evidence base needed to support decision-making. During the event, the ATO presented its latest data platforms, policy databases, and analytical tools that can help governments assess current trends, evaluate policy options, and monitor progress toward sustainable and climate-resilient transport systems across Asia and the Pacific. Through this engagement, ATO contributed to regional knowledge-sharing efforts aimed at translating climate commitments into actionable transport policies and investments.

ATO also showcased several of its flagship data resources, including the ATO National Database, containing more than 500 transport-related indicators, the ATO Urban Database, and its growing transport policy database covering over 10,000 policy measures across the region. Participants were introduced to a range of interactive tools and knowledge products, including the Transport and Climate Change Profiles, the Climate Hazards Exposure Dashboard for Transport, and the Asia and the Pacific Transport Development Finance Explorer. These platforms provide policymakers and practitioners with accessible evidence to support climate mitigation, adaptation, and investment planning.

The event provided an opportunity for ATO to demonstrate its continuing role as a regional evidence platform, helping governments, development partners, and stakeholders better understand transport sector challenges and identify pathways toward more sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon transport systems across Asia and the Pacific.
