The ATO contributed to the national workshop "Moving Towards Efficient, Resilient, Low Carbon and Accessible Port Cities in Asia-Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS)", held in Honiara from 27-29 January 2026. As part of the urban transport and accessibility track, ATO presented on relevant data and policy insights relating to sustainable and inclusive transport policy development, with a focus on urban transport in small island economies' contexts. The presentation highlights the finding of newly released "Solomon Islands Transport in Review Working Paper Series" publication. The publication is structured around the main themes of the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026-2035.
The intervention complemented ESCAP's SUTI+ discussions by highlighting how evidence-based diagnostics can help identify policy gaps, prioritize inclusive access, and strengthen the link between national transport strategies and on-the-ground outcomes in the Solomon Islands. The workshop is organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development of Solomon Islands and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, part of the "Moving Towards Efficient, Resilient, Low Carbon and Accessible Port Cities in Asia-Pacific Island Developing States (SIDS) to Achieve Better Transport Connectivity and Accessibility for All."
