ATO briefed Asia's business journalists on transport’s decarbonization

2025-09-02 Zoom (online)

Internews' Earth Journalism Network (EJN) recently held a four-day regional virtual workshop for journalists from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Thailand on Sept 2–3, 2025. The training—part of EJN's new Business and Climate Media Initiative—examined how private-sector decisions drive emissions and how companies can help deliver a just energy transition. Sessions featured industry experts, policymakers, and veteran media trainers.

ATO co-lead Alvin Mejia presented why transport is pivotal to Asia's climate transition: since 2000, Asia has added the largest share of global transport CO₂ growth, and cutting those emissions must be aligned with broader development goals (health, resilience, equity). He also underscored how a just transition depends on private-sector innovation, affordable and scalable tech, and clear standards to steer investment.
