Updated Gender in Transport Profiles Released

2026-03-10 Web

The Asian Transport Observatory has released a new set of Gender in Transport Profiles presenting key insights on gender dimensions in transport systems across Asia and the Pacific. The profiles compile gender-disaggregated data and policies relating to important dimensions such as workforce participation, wages, road safety outcomes, and policy developments.

The data indicates that women account for about 14% of transport sector employment in Asia, while average female wages in the sector are about 7% lower than those of men. Road safety outcomes also differ by gender: men account for roughly 75% of road crash fatalities in the region. At the policy level, only around 7% of transport policy documents explicitly incorporate gender considerations, highlighting the emerging nature of gender-responsive transport policy in the region.

The profiles provide a consolidated evidence base to support policymakers, researchers, and development partners working to improve inclusive and equitable transport systems.
