Blog Piece "Turning Asia's Transport Ambitions into Real Emission Cuts" Published on the ADB Development Blog Site

2025-11-10 Web

Asia and the Pacific account for nearly half of the world's transport-related greenhouse gas emissions, making the region’s progress critical to global climate goals. Our recent blog published in ADB's Asian Development Blog site stresses that while many countries in the region have set ambitious targets for cleaner transport, stronger policies, targeted public and private investments, and clear accountability are essential to translate those ambitions into actual emission reductions.

The piece highlights that policy frameworks must be more robust and backed by measurable actions, such as electrifying vehicle fleets, improving fuel efficiency standards, and scaling low-carbon transport infrastructure. Mobilizing finance effectively — from national budgets, multilateral banks, and private capital — is also key to closing the gap between planning and implementation.
