Asia and the Pacific is a global leader in electric mobility, railway electrification, and energy-efficient transport. However, these advancements remain largely untracked in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A new blog on the ADB Development Blog - Transport: Missing Piece in Achieving the SDGs - explores this gap, revealing key findings from an analysis of over 20 transport-related indicators. The data highlights the region’s leadership in electric mobility—with over 90% of the world’s e-vehicles—and its position as the most energy-efficient transport sector globally. Yet, challenges persist. Fossil fuel subsidies remain high, transport emissions are rising, and urban access to public transport lags behind global standards.

With the upcoming UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2036), the blog argues that tracking transport’s contribution to the SDGs is more urgent than ever. Read the full article here to explore why this matters and what must be done to close the gap.
