The Asian Transport Observatory (ATO) contributed to the online workshop "Moving Towards Efficient, Resilient, Low Carbon and Accessible Port Cities in Asia-Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to Achieve Better Transport Connectivity and Accessibility for All," held on 24 February 2026 and hosted by UNESCAP in South Tarawa, Kiribati.

As part of the workshop program, Adwait Limaye presented "From Connectivity to Resilience: Transport Insights from Kiribati," drawing on findings from the Transport in Review: Kiribati report and ATO's databases. The presentation examined how Kiribati's geographic remoteness, fuel dependence, and climate exposure shape transport performance and policy choices.

The session focused on how structured evidence can support more informed prioritization, particularly in small island contexts where infrastructure space, fiscal capacity, and climate risks are tightly linked. The presentation complemented broader workshop deliberations on port cities and connectivity by situating transport planning within the wider development and resilience agenda for Pacific SIDS.
