The ATO contributed to the Digital X ADB session on Earth Observation and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) held at the ADB Innovation Lab on February 26, 2026. Organized by ADB in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the event explored how earth observation and geospatial analytics can support ADB operations and development planning. The event brought together around 40 participants onsite, primarily ADB staff, with approximately 90 additional participants joining online. The discussions highlighted the growing importance of spatial data for ADB, noting that over 80% of the ADB’s project portfolio incorporates a geospatial component. Presentations during the session focused on applications in sectors such as energy, public health, and agriculture, demonstrating how geospatial tools can enhance evidence-based decision-making across sectors.

As part of the session, ATO data analyst Aaron Michael Salang demonstrated several geospatial products developed in collaboration with ATO, including the ATO Urban Indicators Dashboard, the Aichi Countries Flood Exposure Dashboard, and the Road Safety Performance Indicators Web Map. These tools illustrate how integrating earth observation data with open geospatial datasets can support spatial analysis of transport systems, infrastructure exposure, urban dynamics, and road safety performance across Asia and the Pacific.
