Each minute, someone dies on Asia’s roads, on average. According to the latest available data from WHO, there were over 694 thousand road fatalities in Asia in 2021, almost sixty percent  of the total 1.19 million estimated road deaths globally.  The issue disproportionately impacts low- and middle-income countries in Asia, where 99%  of the road deaths in the region occur.

Vulnerable road users are disproportionately impacted. In 2021, a third of the road fatalities in the region consisted of pedestrians and cyclists, while 35% were motorized two and three-wheeler users.
