Road Safety in CAREC Region - State of Play

About 42% of road crash fatalities come from the CAREC region (2019). As of 2016, the cost of fatalities and serious injuries has gone as high as 6.1% of the region’s GDP. Over the last decade, the region improved marginally by about 1%. This report discusses trends and stories about road safety in the CAREC region.

Slight improvement is seen in the region for the last decade. However, this improvement varies across the different member countries. The level of LDV and 2/3-wheeler motorization varies as well across different countries. Consequently, the share of 2/3-wheeler deaths is more prominent in East Asian region while LDV user fatalities is higher in Central and West Asian region. However, data shows pedestrian fatalities are alarmingly increasing in the region.
